Responsibilities:
• Lead the management, deployment, configuration, and optimization of enterprise database instances (MS SQL, MySQL, Progress, MongoDB, Oracle, DB2).
• Perform advanced database backup, recovery, and disaster recovery procedures; ensure validated DR (Backup & Restore) plans.
• Conduct performance tuning, including execution plans, indexing strategies, query analysis, wait event monitoring, and resource bottleneck resolution.
• Stay current with high availability solutions (clustering, replication, log shipping, AlwaysOn, Data Guard), even if rarely used currently.
• Drive database version upgrades, patching, vulnerability remediation, and platform lifecycle management.
• Ensure data integrity, security, and compliance across all database environments, including encryption (TLS, TDE) and secure connectivity configurations.
• Lead incident response and deep troubleshooting for database outages, performance issues, and service degradations.
• Collaborate with application, infrastructure, storage, and cloud teams to ensure seamless data availability and reliability.
• Maintain comprehensive documentation of database architectures, operational procedures, and support models.
• Conduct regular capacity, utilization, and health reviews; propose optimization and improvement initiatives.
• Support audit, compliance, and licensing reviews, and remediate findings as required.
• Participate in governance, reporting, service reviews, and operational improvement initiatives.
• Provide technical leadership, mentoring, and guidance to L2 Database Analysts; organize and manage an on-call rotation.
• Manage vendor escalations and coordinate with third-party support providers.
• Lead database migration and consolidation activities (on-premises → cloud or cross-platform).
• Support business continuity planning, DR test execution, and post-test reporting.
• Oversee secure decommissioning of end-of-life database hardware and data sanitization processes.

Requirements:
• Database Administration: Expert-level knowledge of MS SQL, MySQL, Progress, MongoDB, Oracle, and DB2, including administration, backup, patching, and lifecycle management.
• Performance Tuning: Strong experience with execution plans, indexing strategies, wait events, engine metrics, and AWR/ASH analysis.
• High Availability & Disaster Recovery: Deep understanding of HA/DR architectures (AlwaysOn, Data Guard, log shipping, replication) and DR testing.
• Security & Compliance: Expertise in TLS, certificates, secure driver configuration, encryption, auditing, masking, privilege management, and license compliance.
• Capacity Planning & Forecasting: Skilled in capacity planning, data growth modeling, and platform optimization.
• Backup & Recovery: Knowledge of backup technologies, snapshot-based recovery, cross-site failover, and DR simulations.
• Cloud & Observability: Familiarity with cloud-managed database services (Azure, GCP, AWS) and observability/monitoring for DB performance, alerting, and telemetry.
• Migration & Upgrades: Expertise in database migration planning, version upgrades, and platform consolidation.
• Automation & Scripting: Proficient in PowerShell, Python, and Bash for automating routine database operations.
• Leadership & Mentoring: Ability to mentor and develop L2 database analysts; strong people management and technical leadership skills.
